space [amir photo] Name: Amir

Instrument: Bass / Vocals

Birthdate: 21/04/76

Joined up: Was one of the founding members of Zygote in the summer of ‘92

Musical influences: Flea, Victor Wooten, Tool, Black Sabbath, Parliament

Little-known fact: Amir's favourite actor is Alan Thicke.

Amir turned to playing music roughly a decade ago, and the healthy channel that this provided for his aggression (which there’s quite a bit of) is probably one of the things that has kept him from murdering anyone to date. He is a natural musician and the band’s chief songwriter, creating new material almost faster than the band can rehearse it. Over the years he has also grown into a talented vocalist, surpassing the standard “backup vocals” role and taking the occasional turn on leads at the mike. His playing style on the bass is at once melodic and powerful, creating a dynamic rhythm that is the core of most of the band’s songs. His flair for riling up the crowd between (and occasionally during) songs is legendary, since the man has absolutely not one hint of shame. You know that filter in your head between Things You Think To Yourself and Things You Say Out Loud? Amir doesn’t have one. This particular quirk lends itself well to life on the stage, and Amir’s commanding stage presence makes every instant that he’s under the lights entertaining.

Quote: “Playing bass is a solid mix between guitars and drums. You get all the music and melody, but you get to beat the shit out of it too.”
